Dear Parents and Guardians:
Today, Premier Rankin and Dr. Strang announced plans for Nova Scotia’s reopening, including a return to in-person learning on Wednesday, June 2nd for many regions across the province, including TCRCE. A news release about this announcement is available at https://novascotia.ca/news/release/?id=20210528004.
To allow school staff time to prepare for the June 2nd return to in-person learning, there will be no school for students on Monday, May 31st and Tuesday, June 1st. At-home learning will not take place on these days.
The decision to return to in-person learning is based on careful consideration of COVID-19 data by Public Health. We know the best place for students is in the classroom, where they can interact with their teachers, peers, and school staff.
Our schools are safe and ready for student to return next week. We will continue to follow the same layered approach to health and safety that was in place before at-home learning. Mask wearing will be required for all students and staff, enhanced cleaning procedures will remain in place, class cohorts will continue, and frequent hand washing/sanitizing remains a priority. With warmer weather, there will also be many opportunities for outdoor learning.
School principals will be in touch with families with school-specific information as needed and we will continue to keep you updated as we learn more.
Thank you for doing your best to support your child’s learning at home over these past few weeks. We understand it has been challenging, and we are looking forward to welcoming students back on Wednesday, June 2.
Take care,
Dr. Chris Boulter
TCRCE Regional Executive Director of Education
